Incredibly supportive team, great compensation, and made a lot of genuine connections! I had the chance to do real work in a lot of areas I was unfamiliar with and got to broaden my horizons.

What I wish was different

Training has a few bumps in the road purely because of the virtual transition, but was really as smooth as it could've been. The team did an awesome job compensating for this!

Advice

Jump on this opportunity if you have it is my best advice! While the job may or may not be right for you, the culture and experience is still well cultivated.

What I liked

Strong relationship with manager and team. Role was molded to fit skills and interests. Fun opportunities and events to hear speakers and network.

What I wish was different

Team worked well to fit me on but there were times where things felt disorganized. Certain roadblocks felt avoidable with better planning ahead.

Advice

Be open to trying new things and learning new skills. Take the time to get to know the people you work with. Many can have fascinating stories and good advice.

What I liked

I loved the benefits, the schedule, the PTO, working with bankers, my supervisor and manager very closely. I loved handling cash, coin, checks, getting access to the cash and ATM vault. It was an awesome job. I got to help San Antonio clients with their bank accounts. It was the most sociable job I had and got to build strong rapport with many people that visited the bank. Honestly, I felt like a bad ass getting to count and move money around. It was a sweet ass college gig. Hands down can’t beat going to college and work part time with benefits. I also liked the dress code, I felt very professional going to work as a 19 year old until I was 21.

What I wish was different

I wish I could have kept working there had I not have had to take on more college classes during bank hours. I also wish that I didn’t have to schedule my time off the 15th of the month prior considering I was eligible to take a break if I needed a day off. My permanent address is in Houston so I needed time off from work on Thanksgiving and Christmas to see them and there were many times that I had to work a lot around the holidays and even my birthday, so even though I had plenty of vacation time, I wasn’t able to use it because of the seniority of other employees there. I worked there for 2 years and I had colleagues that had more than 10+ years of experience so I felt like I wouldn’t ever have a preference for getting time off. And I was upset when I tried to schedule my birthday off since the first week of the year and got told it was already taken and then they changed their plans and I got offered to take the Wednesday of my birthday only without the rest of the week so it sucked to have time off based around other people’s convenience and even when I had the opportunity to schedule my time off I was denied. I don’t blame any of my colleagues. I blame the system that doesn’t want to hire more personnel for coverage and is even making it sound like it’s better to close down branches and move to a more digital form of banking. Digital banking means that banks are cancelling jobs for profit. A multi billion dollar bank like Chase should be finding ways to help the working class economy not look for ways to profit at the expense of the people that helped build the business in its entirety. It’s greedy and shows lack of ethics.

Advice

This is a great opportunity for financially inclined and entry level people. I am seeking an engineering degree so eventually I had to resign regardless of how much I could grow in this industry.

What I liked

I loved the culture at the firm. They operate in a collaborative environment where everyone truly wants to see you win. Managers are kind but no-nonsense as well, and they expect the best from you and will help you improve. Even within my team, there was not once a sense of competition for a job, as we all wanted the best out of each other and helped each other improve. This led to us all getting full time offers.

What I wish was different

It would have been a different and far more authentic experience had it been in person, so I wish that had been different. Of course, the circumstances of the times did not allow for that.

Advice

Work as hard as you can and show people that you are doing so. There is nothing wrong with letting decision makers know what you have accomplished if you really are putting that work in. Also, do not be afraid of mistakes. It is not end all be all. learn from them and execute better in the future, but do not fear them.

The office was nice and there was a great amount of diversity in the workforce.

What I wish was different

Since they mainly recruit students from Semester schools I missed a lot of early networking since I joined as a Quarter student. It made making friends a bit harder since everyone had their clique by the time I joined. I wish that had been different.

Advice

Keep pushing yourself to learn more about what your team does. Showing interest in the business itself is important just like being technically capable.

The experience was virtual due to COVID-19, and they flawlessly transferred the in-person experience to the computer and still made sure we covered all the same things we would have done in-person.

What I wish was different

I would have loved for it to have been in-person and get a chance to live in Dallas, but the virtual experience was great, too.

Advice

Apply early, practice the HireVue videos before submitting, and try to network during the summer to meet as many people as possible!

I would recommend every computer science student to take a project based class prior to any sort of real world experience as it will help them during their experience wherever they work at.

Internal Audit Summer Analyst Intern

What I liked

Very professional. Gained a lot of networking experience for the first time and got to know what it's like to work for such a huge company. The internship is also very good at making sure you learn as much as possible about the company and internal audit, so you can really get a feel for if it seems like something you'd want to do for a career.

What I wish was different

It was completely virtual due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Other than that, I wouldn't change a thing.

Advice

Ask questions, ask questions, and ask questions. If you want advice from anyone as an intern at JPMC, they're going to tell you to ask questions. You might think your question is stupid or too simple - it's not. Asking questions shows that you're engaged and following along and that you actually care. So getting comfortable asking questions and not letting yourself feel too pressured by asking is something I'd advise.
