What I liked

The culture at Intuit is the perfect blend of informal and structured. If you need help, people are always willing to help (at least, when they don't have more pressing things to worry about). At the same time, it's always clear what you're supposed to be doing, so you're never left standing around doing nothing, waiting for work.

What I wish was different

There's a lot of institutional knowledge that's necessary to do... Anything, really. A good chunk is written out on the company wiki, but a lot is hard to find.

Advice

Ask questions! You're there to learn as well as work, and everyone needs some time to settle into a new role. It's better to ask someone who's been working with the code for 5 years than spend a week spinning your wheels.

The living situation was ok for me but some people got put in housing really far away from work. That being said ... they give u free housing!

Wonderful work and life balance, everyone on my team was willing to help me out. I learned so much from all my mentors, and was treated like an actual software engineer instead of an intern.

Everything was perfect.

Don't be afraid to ask questions. You won't learn unless you're open to accepting help from others when you need help!

What I liked

Intuit is an amazing company with a diverse and laid-back culture. There are a lot of great benefits and events for interns and co-ops, and they really try to make sure you have fun while you're there.

What I wish was different

Your experience can vary a lot depending on the team that you work on. Some teams can be challenging and fun, some teams can have brand new projects or tech stacks, but some teams can feel overwhelming or feel like they are lagging behind on industry standards.

Advice

Take advantage of your time there as much as possible. There a lot of cool things to do and see in the area. Make sure to network as much as possible and take full advantage of all of the benefits of the company. Try to learn as many new things as you can and don't be afraid to admit when you don't know something.

What I liked

Intuit has an amazing culture with a well-organized intern program centered around fostering great minds. I highly recommend the company, it is ranked as one of Forbes' greatest companies to work at, and working here is a great learning experience for any college student.

What I wish was different

Nothing, Intuit has a great setup. Just remember that nothing is given to you in the business world, you have to ask for and earn rewards.

Advice

Be prepared because the workplace is not like school. You have to take responsibility for yourself, ask for quality assignments, and demonstrate your abilities to your team. There is very limited hand holding in a corporate environment: most engineers do not expect much from an intern, and so if you want to learn and make an impact you have to be willing to put in the time and the effort. I would recommend looking through the codebase for the first week and solving some simple bugs to learn your way around. Then ask for work and prove you can bring something to your team to get the most out of your experience.

Honestly, couldn't really have asked for more

Advice

Be proactive about setting expectations with your manager - how often you speak, where you communicate, when you will be checking in. Your manager might proceed totally unaware of how you're doing otherwise so it's absolutely up to you to step up as soon as things start.
