Target

Team member

January 2016 • Richfield, MN

What I liked

I love the community at target! If you want to be invested in and fulfilled by your work this is a great place to thrive.

What I wish was different

Since this is a very large store with many employees and a high volume of guests and product being sold, it can get chaotic. Communication and goals can be hard to keep track of.

Advice

Ask questions and get to know the details of your work center. There is an answer and a right way to do everything, doing this job correctly is very technical.

Executive Team Leader Intern

June - August 2019 • Setauket-East Setauket, NY

What I liked

It was interesting getting experience in retail and learning about sales and marketing. I got to spend time in almost every department in the store and learned from the leaders.

What I wish was different

I wish the hours were more consistent every week. I also wish the leadership team gave the interns more opportunity to be a leader. Moving around the departments so often meant that you never got to be a leader in any department, yet they still expected you to be a leader.

Advice

Know what you're getting into for retail. Talk to the leadership team about their experiences and how they got to their positions.

Executive Team Leader

June - August 2019 • Eagle Rock, CA

What I liked

Target definitely puts a lot of time and effort into their Interns. What I liked about Target is that the culture is real and the days are never the same. After my 10 week summer Internship I was able to know Target inside and out! Also, you will learn what type of leader you are in those 10 weeks, working with a team that could be the size of 150 people.

What I wish was different

I felt that everything Target promised I received.

Advice

Enjoy the opportunity to learn about the company, meet new people, and have an open mind. Take in all the experience and lessons that come your way.

Store Executive Intern

June - August 2019 • Lancaster, PA

What I liked

Interning with Target is one of the best experiences Saint Joseph's University has opened the doors to for me thus far in my career. The internship gave me the opportunity to be a leader of people and teams, while learning about a variety of areas in a rotational program. I was able to learn about human resources, guest engagement, talent and team development, logistics and supply chain, sales and merchandising. My Target team taught me an immense amount every day of my internship experience.

Cashier

June 2019 • Destin, FL

What I liked

I enjoyed the friendly atmosphere and the comfort knowing that I never had to worry about angering people if I needed help. I also loved the freedom and trust they gave me which helped me develop good relationships with the customers. Finally, I also loved being able to be open about my religion as opposed to being censored.

What I wish was different

I wish that there was a better way to control whether or not employees showed up to work as it was very difficult to make up for those who chose to be absent from their job.

Advice

I would say that whey looking for a company, make sure that they have your best interests in mind instead of viewing you simply as a cog in a machine. When I worked at Target, I felt like I was working with a family rather than a bunch of strangers.

Target Textile Engineering Research Lead

May - August 2019 • Dartmouth, MA

What I liked

It was nothing like anything I have ever done before. I am a bioengineering student and I was asked to lead a research team to propose a solution to a textile chemistry issue that target is facing in the children's pajamas field. As a microbiologist this was so out of my comfort zone, but I figured why not give it a whirl. My team wound up being selected by target to receive a $15,000 research grant to produce a prototype of our proposed solution. It was an awesome summer working with engineers from various fields gaining tons of new skills!

What I wish was different

The interactions with the supervisors at target- they were not offering much aid to us and feedback was always incredibly delayed. We were on our own entirely, it was beneficial in terms of being independent but direction would've been helpful.

Advice

Go out in a whim, say yes to everything you find interesting! Expanding your network and skill set is always worth it!
